Conference Program

Join us at the Third International Conference: Adriatic Biodiversity Protection – AdriBioPro2024, a milestone event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the University of Montenegro and 25 years of the AdriaMed project. Against the backdrop of the H-LEVEL SA-Smart-Skills initiative, our conference is poised to address critical challenges and opportunities in the South Adriatic region's blue economy. With a focus on marine biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable practices, AdriBioPro2024 offers a vibrant platform for researchers, policymakers, stakeholders, and enthusiasts to come together and shape the future of marine science priorities and policies. Delve into pressing topics such as marine litter, aquaculture, climate change impacts, and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems through plenary sessions, breakout discussions, and the engaging South Adriatic Sea Food Fair. As we collectively work towards a resilient and vibrant Adriatic environment, join us in fostering a sustainable balance between conservation efforts and the development of the blue economy in the South Adriatic region. Let's embark on this journey of exploration, collaboration, and innovation for the betterment of our shared maritime heritage.

Conference venue

Conference sessions will be held in the Center for Culture “Nikola Djurković” in the Old City of Kotor. Center has multi/functional conference halls which can accommodate up to 300 participants. Side events will be held in the Institute of Marine Biology, Kotor.

Kotor city

The old Mediterranean port of Kotor (Italian: Cattaro) is a coastal town in Montenegro, surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. It is located on the Bay of Kotor (In Montenegrin: Boka Kotorska), one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. Some have called it the southern-most fjord in Europe, but it is a ria, a submerged river canyon. Kotor is part of the World Heritage Site dubbed the Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor. The fortified city of Kotor was also included in UNESCO's World Heritage Site list as part of Venetian Works of Defence between 15th and 17th centuries.

Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro

Since its establishment Institute of Marine Biology performed comprehensive research of the marine and coastal area, which has its wide impact to the environmental protection and pollution-prevention of those areas, and practical application (e.g. sea food industry). Core competencies of Institute of Marine Biology are focused on research in the fields of mariculture, marine conservation, ichthyology and marine fisheries, chemistry, general biology, neurophysiology and eco-physiology and biochemistry.
